Abstract
Elger Dietmar studied art history, history and literature at the University of Hamburg. In 1984 he received his doctorate with a thesis on the Merzbau of Kurt Schwitters. From 1984 to 1985 he was a secretary in the studio of the painter Gerhard Richter, then from 1985 to 1988 research associate at the Museum Ostwall, Dortmund. Since 1989 Elger worked as curator of painting and sculpture at the Sprengel Museum Hannover. He has organized numerous exhibitions of modern and contemporary art, and wrote accompanying exhibition catalogs, among others to Richard Tuttle, Stephan Balkenhol, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Donald Judd and the portraits of Andy Warhol.

Elger Dietmar studert kunsthistorie, historie og litteratur ved Universitetet i Hamburg. I 1984 mottok han sin doktorgrad med en avhandling om Merzbau av Kurt Schwitters. Fra 1984 til 1985 var han sekretær i studio av maleren Gerhard Richter, så 1985-1988 forskning førsteamanuensis ved Museum Ostwall, Dortmund. Siden 1989 Elger jobbet som kurator for maleri og skulptur ved Sprengel Museum Hannover. Han har organisert en rekke utstillinger av moderne kunst og samtidskunst, og skrev medfølgende utstillingskataloger, blant annet til Richard Tuttle, Stephan Balkenhol, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Donald Judd og portretter av Andy Warhol.
