It Takes a Fool to Remain Sane - A Cave of a Thousand Hands, The Fool´s Journey & The Sewing Circle

Abstract

In my master project “It Takes a Fool to Remain Sane” I explore the weight of responsibility and caring as a mother facing the ecological crisis. Drawing inspiration from Donna Haraway’s book “Staying with the trouble”, my interdisciplinary approach to art aims to understand rather than state, questioning the role of art in fostering care, responsibility, and interconnectedness. My installation «The Cave of a Thousand Hands» is created during two main processes;

It Takes a Fool to Remain Sane is a sewing circle for mothers in times of ecological crisis, discussing motherhood in the uncertain future of our era, while we sew white gloves together forming new textile-rooms.

It Takes a Fool to Remain Sane is also one individual mother’s tragicomedy. This journey is portrayed as a Tarot stack, a card game used for self-reflection.

I mitt masterprosjekt «It Takes a Fool to Remain Sane» utforsker jeg vekten av ansvar og omsorg som mor i møte med den økologiske krisen. Med inspirasjon fra Donna Haraways bok "Staying with the trouble", har min tverrfaglige tilnærming til kunst som mål å forstå snarere enn å påstå, og stille spørsmål ved kunstens rolle i å fremme omsorg, ansvar og tilhørighet. Min installasjon «The Cave of a Thousand Hands», er laget gjennom to hovedprosesser;

It Takes a Fool to Remain Sane er en pågående syklubb for mødre, hvor vi diskuterer morsrollen i vår tids usikre fremtid mens vi syr hvite hansker sammen til nye tekstil-rom.

It Takes a Fool to Remain Sane er også en individuell mors tragikomedie. Denne reisen er fremstilt som en Tarot-stabel, et kortspill som brukes til selvrefleksjon.
