dc.description.abstract[WALKABOUT: click file NAVIGATION EXHIBIT] The flyer series series queries the aspects in which design can offer research qualities relevant to foundational questioning in the art-field, beyond the discursive boundaries of a discipline. It proposes a critical view of the limiting scope of ‘foundation theory’ as a general idea of what theory should do (and what theory is about). Experimental theory development is queried as an alternative to scope foundations, when the foundations are grounded in practices. The techno-cultural device is a practical concept for supporting experimental theory development, in the edgeland between digital interfaces and circulating projects & people. The concept of cultural technology I take from experimental archaeology, and exploit the distinction between this area of investigation from media archaeology (where inquiries tend to be restricted to the electronic age, or cultural repertoire). The Device series is intended for the enrichment the designs that we can foresee in what here is called the Edgeland (from lack of a better term): the contact zone between viral contamination and digital connection. Designs for teeming spaces where walls are defined and pushed; featuring the Learning Theatre (inspired by Cedric Price’s and Joan Littlewood’s shareware between architecture and AGITPROP, called the Fun Palace [transposed in the Pompidou Centre]).en_US
