dc.description.abstractProf. Cruz’s practice-based research has regularly concerned itself with text and translation as a metaphor for visual representation, and as an embodied and performative process. He has worked in a range of media including performance, video and installation, and exhibited his work widely since 1998 across Europe, Australia and Japan in institutions such as the Witte de With, Rotterdam, The Melbourne Festival, Serralves Foundation Porto, Camden Arts Centre and the South London Gallery. His work has also been included in survey books published by Thames and Hudson (Place, Ed. Tacita Dean and Jeremy Millar 208pp ISBN 9780500930076 on Art and Place) and Serpents Tail (The Alpine Fantasy of Victor B. and Other Stories, Ed. Jeremy Ackerman and Eileen Daly 224pp ISBN 9781852429263 on Artists Writings). Prof. Cruz received a Paul Hamlyn Award for Artists in 1999 and in 2000 he was the Kettle’s Yard Artist Fellow at the University of Cambridge. He is represented by Matt’s Gallery London and Galeria Elba Benitez Madrid. Prof. Cruz is a member of the Council of Tate Liverpool, was a Trustee of the A Foundation and is currently serving as a member of the REF2014 sub-panel 34 (Art & Design History, Practice and Theory).
